The Basics of Solo Canoeing – 2 hours (free with Boat Buyer's Benefits)

 

This course is designed to teach you to be a safe and efficient canoeist.  You'll start with learning the anatomy of your boat. We'll also talk about paddler's position, the differences between sitting and kneeling and what advantages each style provides.  Next you'll learn the parts of the canoe paddle and proper paddle grip.  After talking about some of the basic techniques of paddling a canoe, we'll wrap up the land session by learning the proper way of entering a canoe from the dock.

 

Now it’s time to hit the water!  On water we will cover the five basic kayak strokes:

  • Forward and reverse sweeps
  • An efficient forward stroke
  • The benefit of a C-stroke
  • The difference between a stern rudder and a J-stroke
  • Finally, making sure you can stop your boat while remaining in control

The Basics of Tandem Canoeing – 2 hours (free with Boat Buyer's Benefits)

 

This course is designed help you work as a team with your paddling partner to stay safe and efficient on the water.  You'll start by learning the anatomy of your boat. We'll also talk about paddlers' positions, the differences between sitting and kneeling and what advantages each style provides.  Next you'll learn the parts of the canoe paddle and proper paddle grip.  We'll talk about some of the basic techniques of paddling a canoe and working as a team to control your boat.  We'll wrap up the land session by learning the proper way of entering a canoe from the dock.
